There is a common theme to the emails I get from coaches around the world who say they aspire to become college coaches. That theme is one of gathering information that will help them land a job. The emphasis is in the “how” to become a coach. Advice is always a good thing, but all of the advice in the world will not help an aspiring coach unless they have first decided to 100% pursue college coaching.
My advice to every young coach is to answer the “why” first then the “how.” To be a success in any profession you need to know what truly driven you and supplies the passion to excel every day. Your “why” will sustain you in tough times when you want to quit your dream of being an NCAA coach. It is your blueprint with step-by-step illustration of how you will get there. Once the “why” is clear, the “how” becomes much easier.
If you are willing to do everything it takes to make college coaching a life long profession, then make that decision wholeheartedly and begin your journey. Anything short of an all out commitment is nothing but a dream that will never come to fruition!
It’s up to you. Are you ready to DECIDE?
